The Certificate of Attainment in Greek( Greek Proficiency), or Ellinomatheia, is the only certificate of proficiency in the Greek language recognized by the Greek state. Established in 1998 by the Greek Ministry of Education, it meets the demands of Greek language learners both in Greece and abroad. The Centre for the Greek Language (CGL) in Thessaloniki supervises and administers the examinations in collaboration with officially recognized examination centers. These exams assess listening and reading comprehension, speaking, and writing skills. The Certificate can be obtained at six proficiency levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
